MeiHua Qigong

In its 500 year history, Meihua Qigong brings back the wisdom of the body that has been forgotten in western culture.

Our life force (Qi) is considered our second spirit, and thus needs to be treated with care and devotion.

When our qi is “sick,” we feel unwell physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. With simple consistent practices, our qi is realigned to health and vitality.

This form of qigong focuses on cleaning the qi through a process called Qi Cleansings. During the cleansing process, the etheric auric body that holds our qi has layers of stagnation removed from it by the qi practitioner. What’s removed-what we call Dirty Qi—is given back to the Earth.

Dirty qi is not referred to in judgement, but simply as a differentiation of qi that is not clean (strong & vital). All of us have dirty qi. Our qi gets “dirty” when we walk outside into polluted air and while going into public where our auric fields overlap with others who have weak and dirty qi.

The major—arguably the most impactful—factor of what causes our qi to become dirty is layers upon layers of repressed or unprocessed emotions. A lifetime of hurtful and traumatic events (that were not fully processed) cause restriction and constriction in the qi. When the qi becomes restricted, dirty qi shows up in other ways. This includes physical tension and pain, mental negativity and emotional dysregulation.

Cleansings can sometimes leave us in full body sweats and needing rest, depending on the nature of the cleansing and what was removed. With each cleansing we are revitalized, clearer and more in balance.

The body can often “shake” while being cleaned—what we call an Activation in Meihua, and what is referred to as neurogenic tremors in western culture. This shaking is the same shaking off animals do after a stressful event, like running from a predator. This tremoring (often experienced as vibrating in Meihua) is the nervous system recalibrating itself by discharging stress and trauma that’s been held in the body.

There’s an understandable wow factor when witnessing an activation, yet I want to be clear—it is not to be set as a personal goal or expectation. Healing is absolutely possible without it. An activation happens in time and with dedication to the practice.

Spiritually, Meihua follows a Taoist view of life and meaning. When our qi is clean and strong, it’s rather effortless to go with the flow of life. This isn’t to say life won’t bring us stress and challenges. But, our perception of such challenges is one of overcoming and growth, instead of pain and suffering. Challenges come and go, and clean qi meets them with acknowledgment and grace.

Meihua is a practice that is appropriate for all walks of life, every body type, and every religious and spiritual belief system. It is not a religion. It is a reconnection to SELF, and the intelligence of one’s own Qi. When our qi is clean, we naturally live ethically, morally and via love and compassion. We abide by the Golden Rule, and see all life and experiences as an extension of self.
